More torque, less consumption means greater reliability  

The design of the turbine, including integrated waste-gate valve, permits high supply pressure even at low idle speeds, thereby optimising torque and consumption.

However, upon reaching maximum turbo charging pressure (corresponding to high idle speeds), mechanical protection of the engine and the turbine itself is necessary. This task is performed by the waste-gate system, which permits the pressure on the turbine to be maintained at a constant while limiting its upper operational level.
